Active motion of contaminated microbubbles

In many natural and technological multi-phase systems, bubbles are exposed to surface-active contaminants (surfactants) that may cover the whole or part of bubble interface. A partial coverage interface result in a spontaneous self-propulsion mechanism, which is yet not fully characterized. Here, dynamics partially contaminated examined using high-fidelity simulations. The simulations enable detailed picture flow physics interfacial mechanisms driving transient active motion. Results also show for case viscous surrounding negligible surface diffusion duration motion inversely proportional area fraction, corresponding displacement directly clean fraction.
